89 F-150 Anti-lock light

I have an 89 F-150 and my anti lock break light comes on and stays on while driving. If I turn it off and back on it stays off for awhile then comes back on. I replaced the rear shoes about 3 months ago.

Can anyone tell my the correct procedure to diagnose my problem? Seems like I read somewhere that it is usually a sensor on the rear differential?

The breaks seem to work fine.

I have the same problem on occassion with my '99 F-150. From what I have read and been told, its a simple replacement job needing little more than a wrench, however, since mine quit coming on after doing this about 2 weeks,I never replaced it. I also have read that when that light is on, even though there is nothing physically wrong with the ABS system, it shuts down the ABS computer and ABS will NOT work. So might be careful of sudden stops when the light is on.

I can vouch for that. I had a lamebrain move into my lane (to avoid another LB coming into his lane) recently and had to get on the brakes hard. The rear wheels started coming around very quickly. Made a mental note to look into the ABS problem.
