Changing the timing belt on my car. Need advice.

Hi. I have an '86 Mitsubishi Cordia and I am trying to change the timing belt on my car. I'm waiting to see if someone will lend me a chain wrench in order to remove the pulley in the crankshaft spot. In the meantime, I thought i'd ask a few questions.

After I put both the car's timing belts properly aligned, will the car be good to go after everything else is put back exactly the way it was? For example, will the spark plug cables work in the same position as they were before the belts broke or will the cables need to be readjusted somehow? What i'm trying to ask is: is the're another step after you install the timing belt? For some reason, I think that i'm going to install the belts and the car is not going to work properly. Any tips? Thanks

First, I would find a NG devoted to Mitsubishi's.

Then, I would shoot myself for being an idiot.

There's no need to "find a NG devoted to Mitsubishi's". It's a timing belt question. lmao... for any car, make, or model. I asked if the spark plug cables needed readjustment or if they need to be reinstalled the same way the were removed. I also asked for tips (maybe things that people commonly overlook when performing this type of procedure). You seem to think that changing a timing belt is a unique procedure for every make and model.

Save the typical teenage animosity about cars' makes and models and let someone who has a clue respond.

Uh, this is the Ford Trucks newsgroup. Ford trucks don't have timing belts.

As long as you don't turn anything not even the slightest bit, while the belt is off, you will be fine.

You should go find the Mitsubishi news groups... seriously, there will be people there who are knowledgeable about your car. You are in the wrong group.

If the belt broke, things are already screwed. You need to find out where the timing marks and pointers are to realign everything. You also need to find out if you have an "interference" motor. If you do, you may have damaged valves when the belt broke.

The fact that you are asking about spark plug wires tells me that you would be best leaving this job to someone with more knowledge. If you do this wrong, you can cause serious engine damage.
