EECIV code 14

Hey folks, 91 Ranger 2.3 L I have had this truck about 3 months and so far so good. Fixed a number of EGR codes about 2 months ago by cleaning the EGR valve. Friday I get the dreaded Check engine light but this time I have some dead misses. Well the usual gaggle of EGR related codes come out along with something else. Codes 14 and 88. These are PIP signal failure and loss of duel plug control. Well I got to go out of town next week and so much for driving my truck but all is not lost. I have since ordered the Ford repair manuals and the electric vacuum supplement. 10 to 15 days delivery hope they will be sooner. This AM I replaced the EGR with a new one and tested it before I installed it with a DMM and it passes all tests as well as feed voltage from the ECA. Cleared the codes and I drove the truck about 15 minutes, drive and runs great and no light. I would take the truck on my trip if not for the PIP signal problem. Question for all of you.

Does the crank sensor or DIS module have a tendency to burn up or are they pretty reliable? Could this be a wiring problem or both? I am trying to get a look at where to look first before the manuals come in. I plan to drive the truck tomorrow and see if the code 14 and 88 return or if I get the missing problem again. Thanks for any returns Use my E-Mail below if you want I will not get back until Aug. 15th to re-check the group.
