F-150 4.6 liter

Is there any know problem with this engine ( 4.6 ) liter for cylinder # 8 burning a hole in the piston ? the form Mechanic said that the wrong spark plug were installed . I've rechecked the plug part number and they are the correct ones for that truck according to the manufacture book , if it is the plugs fault why just cyl # 8 ? , could the problem be with the injector ? making it run lean and melted the piston ? No I did not install ford plugs , put in ac/delcos ...and the cross over book shows the same plug that I installed I used ac /delco because I've always had good performance from them in all my cars and truck for the last 20 + years ...regardless of make . They seam to out last champions 2-1 for mileage so my question is , is this my fault or is there a know problem with the 4.6 to melt out a piston ?????? snipped-for-privacy@shaw.ca

The engine does not have any problems commonly "known" to cause burned pistons. A lean mixture from a dirty injector or an leaky intake gasket or, the wrong heat range plugs may cause this. Also, it it possible that you are losing coolant. Have you checked the EGR system or, have you been noticing any unusual ping under load. This can burn a piston in only a few minutes. Then, there is the statistical certainty that one will fail if you make enough of them and you just happen to have it at the time.

AC/Delco works great in GM products. The only plugs known to be correct for Ford products are the Motorcraft brand. I have had good results with Autolite. I know of no scientific evidence that one pug will work any better than another but, my own experience is that the OEM plugs are the only safe, reliable & predictable choice in a non-modified engine. Some engines are so close on specifications that the tolerance in heat range variation may be just enough to put one over the top.

I no longer use Champions in anything including my lawn mower.

4.6 to melt out a piston ??????

I'm struggling to remember where, but I swear I've heard of this problem before, possibly on this group a year back or so. If I remember I'll post it here.
