F-150 Soft brake pedal - fixed!!!

Hi folks,

Thanks to all of you who offered suggestions on my brake problem. It turned out to be a defective master cylinder and a re-built master cylinder with the exact same problem. My first clue was the new MC failed the bench bleed process. They replaced under warranty and the second re-built MC passed the bench bleed process just fine. My brother helped me to bleed all the lines and it is finally back on the road.

Several people commented on the high failure rate of re-built MCs and now I'm a believer too. It was a $100 difference in price but what a hassle.

Thanks again for all your suggestions.

Good deal!! And, thanks for the feedback. All too often there is no feedback which also helps others.

The company I work for sells Cardone reman master cyclinders, as well as new units from a major manufacturer who also supplies OEM. I can tell you our defect rate on the remans is lower than on the new units, by a small amount. I have run a Cardone reman mastercylinder on my road racing RX7 since I put in on the track in 2000. Never a problem braking repeatedy from 110+

After going thru three 'remans' on our 84 B-350 in a week, we went with a new unit

end of problem

I think the re-manners fail to check for pitting in the bores....just hone it and put new parts in

Well, there are "Remanufacturers" and there are "Rebuilders".

The former will sleeve a bad core with a steel or SS sleeve. If that is not possible, they will buy new units and sell for remans, until the core supply comes back. The latter will hone a cylinder and kit it.

Cardone is the only remanufcturer with national distribution that I know of.

It seems that you took great pains exclude that bit of information in your previous thread until your very last post. I wonder why? H
