Flex pipe in exhaust system

I have a 1995 Ford Club Wagon (econoline E-150) van. It has an exhaust leak from a flex pipe that sits between the Catalytic converter and the muffler. This flew pipe looks like one of those old Chinese finger pull puzzles.

This section of pipe is $109. I look in the parts catalog for a F-150 of the same you and it does not have the flex pipe. Can I put in a straight pipe instead of the flex pipe? Is there some reason that a van needs a flex pipe but a pickup truck does not??

Thanks Jude

May I ask why you asked this exact same question yesterday, got 3 excellent responses, and then asked the same question today? Did you not like the answers yesterday?

I do appreciate the responses!!!

I typed it twice because I'm not a computer wizard! After I typed the first post, my computer locked up as soon as I hit enter. I assumed the post did not go thru. The next day, I did not look far enough down to see it and thought it confirmed my assumption. You know what they happens when you assume

I've had my computer lock up with stuff in my outbox, and it left me wondering what went through and what didn't.

No problem, and I'm sorry if I came off like a twerp.
