Ford Wont Idle, Stalls

Howdy:

I have a 85 LTD CV, that stalls and wont idle. Its TBI's vacuum-activated, throttle positioner's plunger, can be extended about

1/8" with a MityVac. Is this 1/8" a correct setting? Or, should it move further?

Can anyone tell me how to test the solenoid that controls the vacuum to the positioner? The solenoid has two wires attached to it. Where does the signal(s) that controls the solenoid, originate?

I haven't any manuals or troubleshooting charts for this problem, but I'm hoping that some readers here, have encountered this problem, and are willing to share their solutions.

Thanks TD

Can't help you with that, but have you cleaned the IAC valve yet? It's right there where you are working, and it's easy to remove. Fixed my similar problem almost completely.

It's a Throttle Body Injection unit that may be acting-up. What is an IAC valve? Is it used with this type of EFI? How does it work? Is it an actuator or sensor?

I can trace wires or vacuum lines until I find it. Where should I start looking? Wow! If this works, it'll sure be an easy fix.

Thanks a million, TD

Howdy:

Our CV is back on the road. The old, idle speed screw trick, should keep it running until the new throttle positioner arrives.

My mistake, your 1985 was probably the last year of the TBI injection, which I don't think used an Idle Air Control valve
