fuel pump

I am wanting to change the fuel pump on my 96 f150. How would I go about doing this as I have never done this.

On my '95 Bronco, the fuel pump lives inside of the fuel tank. I had to drop the tank to get to the pump. The filter lives inline along the frame rail at about the driver side door. It takes a special tool to disconnect the fittings, but the tool is commonly available, and it is made of plastic. I recall that it costs about $5.00. It's not expensive, but it is next to REQUIRED. Don't forget to buy a set. Yes, set. There are actually two of them, and they are different sizes.

You do not need to replace the filter -- but it is a very good idea to do so -- but I mentioned it because the pump has the same kind of fittings. You might not be able to lower the tank far enough to observe the connections easily, so I suggest you practice working the tool on the filter, where you can see what it has to do. When you see how the filter fittings come off, you can do the pump fittings by braille -- which may be a requirement.

When the tank is down, the pump is pretty straight forward.
