LT 235-85-16 studded tires?

I have a 2001 gas F250 SD with 4x4. Its time to get rid of the OEM original LT235-85-16 tires.

I want to stay with the same size, but go to a moderately aggressive tread, and I want studs.

I've bought tires this size before, for my other truck, but never with studs. For the non-studded tires, I usually paid around $65 each. I'm shopping now for the new tires WITH studs, and am shocked that studdable tires are so much more expensive.

It seems that the cheapest tire I can find with stud holes is around $85, and then there is the added cost of having the studs installed. So lets say $97 each for studded tire, versus $65 each for non-studded. Big difference, at least to me.

By the way, the tires I am talking about are the cheap tires that usually give me about 30,000 miles of service.

Anyone know of a franchise tire store that has LT 235-85-16 tires with stud holes, for a more reasonable price?

Anyone have experience with buying this type tire from Pep Boys, or Walmart, or Sams Club?

Any ideas or comments?

What about 245-75 R16? These are almost the same size and should be much more readily available. And here in Canada, most snow tires in this size are studable.

Little smaller dia though. Will throw his speedo off, and lower his gearing a bit. The 235/85-16 is 31.7'' dia. The 245/75-16 is 30.4'' dia. The closest 75 ratio to his size is a 265/75-16 which is 31.6 ''. He might get lucky as the 265 is a common size, but usually the

235/85's are cheaper, being they are narrower. Heck, his prices seem pretty good to me. I'd have to hunt up my ticket, but my latest set of 235/85's, that I bought in June, were about $80+ a piece. Dang near $400 to get a set, tax, title, and bendover lube. And like you say, they were the cheapest things I could find with an "E" load rating, which I need on my f-250. And that was with no studs involved. :/ MK
