spark plug torque for 99 lincoln 5.4 32V

Can anyone verify the correct torque for spark plugs in a 99 navigator 5.4

32v?

I've found conflicting information and would like to verify with a reliable publication.

Skimmer, The answer you are looking for is 15 ft. lbs. of torque on your spark plugs IAW the workshop Manual on Fords website. Which is updated with the LATEST information.

My helm book showed 7.5 ft lbs / 89 in lbs / 10 Nm.

My torque wrench is about 18 inches long. When it clicked over at 89, it didn't even feel like the plug seated so I went on about an 8th of a turn.

I started worrying about it and a search revealed various numbers and a history of plug blow out. 15 is the highest I've seen. Jasper engines had a bulletin that it was fourteen...obviously still tighter than 7.5.

Do you think I should leave them as is or open them back up? The starboard side is a bitch to get to. I'm scared to keep messing with them.

I hate to tell you this, but you need to break them loose and retorque them. You have to make sure they are torqued correctly, otherwise they can work loose and blow out, and that isnt any fun. Better to "keep messing with them" and get it right (now), then to have to repair stripped threads from a blow out a couple thousand miles down the road.. That and I would definitely follow OEM torque specs ALWAYS. They know best. I dont know where anyone got their info from. What is a Helm book? Always use Haynes, or Chilton, or if you have access to online you can get All-Data for like $20 for one vehicle for a year through

. I have used ALL-DATA before and it worked good for me, and when I compared it with the books at Ford, it was practically the same.. Looked like a photo copy.. LOL

The Helm book is basically the Factory manual. Haynes and Chilton are a cheap after market book. I have used both and they were very poor except for very basic things.

He's made several questionable comments. In fact, most of his replies are inaccurate. So I'm not surprised he doesn't know about helm. Probably doesn't even work at a dealership.

Actually you will notice on the back of the wiring diagram that I have right here, that they are printed by LITHO, and have that in black in white somewhere around here. That I got during my training at the Hotline, ya know the ones you guys call when you have a problem you cant fix.. As for my current employment. Currently I dont work at a dealership. I have been employed at the Ford Techincal Hotline in Allen Park, Mi, and have worked at Joplin Ford in Joplin, MO. Not everyone is going to be correct all the time, I just add my input and if someone else is right, then I say so. I think its funny that you all call each other names ( not completely innocent here, but only done it once), and get bent out of shape when someone refutes your information. Most of my information comes off of the Oasis site. DO you guys have access to Oasis while sitting at your home computers?? I didnt think so. Another perk of working directly for Ford in Dearborn, you get the generic login for fmc dealer to work on web based training, but at the same time it allows access to Oasis.

UPDATE!! Helm prints factory AUTHORIZED service manuals, which means that they are printed by Helm and approved by Ford to be used as a service manual, but not the exact same thing. Oh, and the EVTM that I have here, is for a 2000 Ford Ranger (my truck). Some of you (if you work at a FORD dealership) might know Ranger Rick (he is the ranger SME at the hotline), and those that work on Diesels have probably talked to Andrew on the diesel line, but he is also the SME for Econolines. For those that dont know SME is Subject Matter Expert.

I will tell you I dont plan on working for one of the BIG 3 when I graduate college. I am looking at the OTR industry. More money to be had in that industry, but that doesnt mean I dont know anything about Fords, I have been working on Fords for well over 10yrs.

If it's publication info you want you have had several comments. Another option is go to your Ford dealer and ask somebody to look it up in the factory CD/manuals, or ask the parts counter guy if they have access to the info.

Expose me? There is no exposure to be had. I dont come on here to make false claims, but I admit I dont know everything so, I looked up the torque that you requested on Fords website. The place where the info gets updated before anything else. Do you need any thing clearer? I have already spelled it out in black and white. If it were my vehicle, I would do exactly as I suggested that you do. It's as simple as that. I would retorque the plugs to make sure they were correct. Or you can give it your best guess and hope you didn't screw it up. Its your vehicle.

Just so you all know, I didnt have access to Fords website when I changed the head gaskets on my Ranger, and I used a Haynes manual and all is STILL well a year later and almost 20,000mi. They work fine for the do-it-yourselfer.. Changing plugs would be considered a do-it-yourself job.

I didnt realize we were going to be judging the size of everyone's manhood in here. Sorry I have my testosterone levels in check. I am not here to threaten anyone or try to make them look bad. I comment when I see wrong info, and if I am wrong, I apologize an let the know that I was wrong, and I try to agree with the person that was right. Ford Tech

And what dealership do you work at? I have posted my credentials.. I will also have you know that I am ASE certified in 5 areas: Gas Engine Diesel Engine Brakes Suspension & Steering Air Conditioning and Heating

And why dont you post at to MOST of my info is inaccurate? Where is your comments w/facts to back this up. I always try to back my comments up with facts or service literature.

Your data may be from a great source. But I've read your other posts and I've convinced myself that any of your advise is suspect.

I don't intend to hurt your feelings, but you are not there yet. Don't give up. But please recognize your limitations and set goals to overcome them.
