Windstar 2000 and Up

Looking at a Windstar starting at the year 2000, with a 3.0l motor. Any year from 2000 up that was a better choice??

That motor is a dog. I had a '98 with the 3.8L and it was a bear. I knew two peeps with a '99 and an '01, I think, that had the 3.0L and they complained about lack of acceleration. My old Windstar moved VERY well and the tranny failed at 105K. Be carefull as to how many miles that '00 has because the trannies on the Windstars were notorious ffor failure between 100k and 125k even if they were meticulously services.

when I had mine rebuilt at a locan tranny shop the owner/mechanic said that the planetaries are weak and do not hold up well. My rebuild failed under warranty and the Ford rebuilt kit had a bad planetary gear that exploded down the street from my house. The garage honored their warranty but I still had to wait another 5 business days for the unit to be thoroughly cleaned & rebuilt and have the cooling lines and core flushed.

Can't say if newer model years are any better.

good luck.
