to have the JOB DONE RIGHT is ONLY $25-$30 plus the Freon.

and SINCE the car should NOT need a recharge EVER, you have a leak or the system ws emptied to replace a part.

Either way an repair and EVACUATION and recharge is needed.

Tossing in a can because you think it needs it does NOT work

See my comments below:

I was quoted 100$CA for something I can easily do myself right.

Agree and that's the goal. Find where the leak is and replace the part myself. I checked and have no pressure at all. I'm also looking for the colored stuff by the way.

This is not what I want to do.

Assuming you are near the US border, your nearest American WalMart.

The restictions on R-12 i can (somewhat) agree with. Laws banning the retail sale of R-134a might as well be called the "Licensed Mechanics Endowment Act", for all the environmental good it does.

Not trying to add fuel to the fire, but:

Since it appears he lives in Quebec, 100$ is the proper way of writing it. It's the french way. They also use a comma for a decimal point. If you really think about, 100$ makes more sense than $100 since we say "one hundred dollars" and not "dollars one hundred."

That's an option but my guess is some state may also have such laws.

I was told that evaporator is often the source of leak on many GM cars. There is no way to avoid high cost repair. Every AC parts are expensive.
