The Hydromatic of this era was just about the best tranny ever made. It was dual-range and one of the last with a rear pump, so you could push-start the car. It is / was sought after in later years.
The Hydromatic factory burned down and they put Dynaflows into the rest of the '53 Oldsmobiles. Both my sister and uncle had one of those slackers. If this one has Dynaflow, avoid it at all costs!
