1994 GMC SAFARI VAN Shaking while shifting into higher gear

I have a 1994 GMC SAFARI VAN. My EGR Valve needs to be replaced. Now it shakes when it shifts into a higher gear. Sometimes the engine will just rev up and it won't go anywhere. Would the EGR Valve be making this problem or is it something else????
