94 GMC Safari front end

The front tires are both severely worn on the outside. The tire pressure is correct. When you turn it feels as if the tires lean. I am trying to figure out if the ball joints are worn out or what?

Maybe, maybe not. Could be due to a whole bunch of things. Without more data, we really can't say. It would be good to list mileage, engine, and alignment & crash history, what type of driving, road surfaces, and anything else that can be of help in diagnosing the problem.

Thanks here is more. mile. 228336, engine 4.3L alignment history is unknown, no crashes, mostly in town driving. This is a used car that i have had about 6 mons. improper size tires were on when i bought it. showed no signs of this wear. these were new tires. the mechanic said alignment was fine when new tires installed. The tires seem to feel like they lean over when turning

228k is getting up there. It is time to check the ball joints. It would be best to take it to a reputable shop and have them check them unless you have the tools and desire to do so. Have them check the tie rods ends, also. Wear on the outside is usually due to too much toe in. That could contribute to the "leaning feeling". Too much positive camber will do the same thing. So could worn ball joints. You might want to familiarize yourself with camber, caster, and toe before taking it to a shop.

I have a 2003 astro with same tire wear problem, balljionts checked out ok, the astro's/ safari's have a history of fast wearing " idler arms ". This was the cause of my worn tires so I replaced them with life time warranty ones.

Yes! I had forgotten about that. We have had to replace them in the company Astros at around 110-120k miles.
