98 grand am gt

we are wondering if mybe we have some dirty injectors, when you take off from a start the car takes a minute to kick in like till 5 or 10 then it will take off fairly quick dont know if this is the case dirty injectors or maybe the 3100 is just a big old kitty

Possable low fuel pressure caused by clogged fuel filter. Change the filter first. If problem is still there take a fuel pressure reading. Should be aprox. 38 psi. at idle.

what can I expect from a 3100 is it a kitty, or is it a leapard. I know as it stands my 3.0 dodge has faster take off and better throtte response.

In today's standards it is a kitty. 0-60mph should be about 8-8.5 secs. In 98 155 hp/185 ft/lbs was respectable for a fairly light compact but now it is low since there are 4 cylinders from Nissan with 175hp.

the dohc 4 cylinders had more umph than this 3100. like I said my 94 spirit with a 3.0 has more balls than this thing.

I know this car has duel exhaust so would it help if we modified it?

It's not a true dual exhaust. It's split.

I believe it's a split single exhaust. Putting duals on it probably would not give you that much anyway. The 3.1 is a snotty little engine but it's no race horse. Unless you were willing to pour thousands into the car you're not going to find any cheap and easy instant horsepower.

so what your saying is that mycar probally is running fine then, it is supposed to be a kitty

Hell if I know if it's running fine now. I don't know if it's running like a 3.1 should or worse. Is it a kitty? Depends on how you define a kitty and how you define a tiger. I'm just saying you aren't going to improve a

3.1 much with cheap tricks. Horsepower costs money, takes time and requires knowledge. Any 6 cylinder on the road today can be made to produce 300HP with relative ease if you know what you're doing and want to invest the cash. No 6 cylinder on the road today is going to dramatically change character with a hundred dollar bolt on solution... despite what the marketing claims state.

oh yeah I understand that, but I'm comparing this car to my 94 spirit with a

3.0 and the 3.0 has more top end, pick up and take off.
