flushing Power Sterring system? [3.8L]

hi, i am about to replace the power steering pump on this 3.8L 1986 oldsmobile toronado.

now i am wondering about how to flush the system so i can put in new PS fluid, as i have heard that old fluid can damage new pumps? is this true?
