Geo Prizm Brakelight

Hey,

When I press the brakes on my 95 Geo Prizm, the brakelights do not come on. But my tail lights and turn signals/indicators do work just fine. what could be the problem? I doubt that all the 3 of the lights went out at the same time. Is it just the brakelight switch? Is there a site that can insruct me how to change a brakelight switch?

Thanks, Pranav Kothari

It could be that the switch is stuck open, in which case it would be best to replace it. It might just be disconnected, or have a wire or something holding it open. It's also remotely possible that it's out of adjustment (therefore always closed), which kept your brake lights on all the time until they all burned out - but you probably would have noticed this before the bulbs burned out, because the brake lights would have been on even when the car was parked.

It should be fairly easy to get at, just open up the underside of the dash and look at the brake pedal arm.

Does the Third Eye light ?

If yes, problem in wiring harness to taillights. If no, is power reaching switch ?

In extreme bullshit cases, run a fused jumper into stop switch. This worked in "Temper Tantrum 's " F Body, after a beer bottle was used to troubleshoot the dashboard's printed circut.

Also check grounds, when in doubt, add a grounding jumper from known good ground.
