Why does a CANADIAN autoworker, union or not, have to pay a health care premium? I thought all Canadians had "universal" health-care coverage. What does this premium entitle the worker to?

As a retiree the only extras that I have to pay for is $200/yr + $6/prescription. Of course if you really need a private room to recover from your operation, it is going to cost you extra. Through my 'family doctor' (no charge) I'm seeing

3 specialists (no charge).
