Old Chevy truck

'65 short/wide bed. A friend is fixing-up this vehicle, supposedly for his grandson who is 15mths old now...we all know better...anyway he wants to do away with the chain tailgate supports and use concealed arm type. IMO it's a mistake, but it's his truck.....er, grandsons truck. He has found retro kits for the step-side bed types, but not for the wide tailgate. Any suggestions? Thanks

the chain supports are probably more durable and stronger than the arm type units. Also, the chain type would look more vintage and correct. Man, if he's splitting hairs about this crap, looks like he's going for a hot rod restoration rather than a vintage, original look. Pretty soon, he'll be shaving the door handles off and painting it yellow and dropping in a 400 horse V8.
