P1870 ???? 96 Olds

1996 Olds Cutlass Supreme 3.1 V-6 with auto tranny, 130,000 miles. The check engine light will come on intermitantly while driving. Had codes cleared and
the check engine light stayed off for about 1 month. Now light is back on and code P1870 is set. The only info I can find on this code says trans slipping. Can anyone provide a more detailed explaination ? Is this possibly just a sensor problem or is a trans overhaul needed ?
Car seems to drive fine. It may be a little low on power but it is overdue for a tune-up. Trans seems to operate properly, no slipping detected while driving.

Many things can cause this code, the most common being a valve body issue in the trans, specifically the tcc bore and valve wearing, causing a slippage in lock up. A full operating scan done by a pro using a bi-directional trans scannner is the only way to diagnose this. There are field repairs to correct this valve body problem.
