Sad day for America

That whole thing was a scam. I looked up my '85 F150 on the web site, and it didn't qualify because the fuel mileage figure on it was 21 mpg. Anybody who has ever owned one of those knows that that truck never would get above 13 mpg on its best day. How many other vehicles were listed with stupidly wrong figures like that? (BTW - I never would have traded it in - I looked it up out of curiosity - plus I think the whole program was immoral.)

I don't know about your 1985 F150, but my 1992 4.9L Automatic F150 would average over 18 in mostly highway driving. Around the farm the mileage dropped to the mid teens, but my overall average for the 14 years I owned it was well over 16 mpg.

Mine has the 4.9, but the granny gear transmission. The lists didn't deal with any options such as that, so it was a one size fits all oversimplification.

You are correct, but one the reason was Ford was selling around 400,000 Explorers, per year for around five years, during the mid eighties and they had been in service for nearly 20 to 25 years. The average mileage on them was close to 400,000, no wonder the owners purchased another Ford!

Ford didn't start selling Explorer SUVs until 1990 (1991 Model year). There were no (or at least very very few) Explorer SUVs in service for 20 years when the cash for clunker program started. The most traded in vehicle was a 1996 Ford Explorer. Which still says a lot about how reliable Explorers were and how prolific they were.

Of course you are correct. I stopped selling cars a long time ago and we sold just about every brand and the memory is the first thing to go. ;)
Even a twenty year old vehicle will have 300,000 miles one it and Ford was selling around 400,000 Explorers a year.
Go to trade any 20 year old vehicle, with 300K on the clock, and the value drops a grand.

If a bus drives over a cliff and the driver suddenly turns over the steering wheel to someone else as the bus plunges towards the ground, do you blame the new guy for the impact?

Perhaps but everything he has done since is added trillions to the counties debt, because he was to stupid to learn from history.
The way to grow an economy is to cut tax RATES, not spend trillion we do not have to try to buy votes. Cutting tax RATES worked to turn around the economy EVERY TIME it was done, by Kennedy, Reagan and Bush and even way back in the twenties!

Our local congressman (Democrat) voted against the bill. He left Harvard during the VietNam war and enlisted. Fought in country as a jr NCO, He felt the current legislation did not address the problems with the current healthcare system except to pile more dollars on something that is broken. Unfortunately, there are not enough like him.

Don't forget, Mike.

This was originally stated by St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo.
It was also quited by Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

Jesus F. Christ! What is the big deal? An industry that is sucking up 18% of the nation's wealth every year gets it's tit stuck in the ringer and we act like the world is coming to an end. Something had to be done or half the nation would be taking care of the other half's health care in 25 years. Gosh, enjoy the day. Is that to hard to do? I've got to hand it to FOX they sure exploited the misery loves company market. Go sit on the porch and drink a cup of coffee or a beer enjoy the rest of the day. The sun will come up tomorrow for more people than it did today.

The attitude well something had to be done...even if it cuts our throat. higher taxes..mandated force participation or fines and jail...16,500 more IRS Agents....Death Panels and mandatory end of life counciling every 5 years....cut Medicare coverage....make everyone pay an additional several thousand dollars a year....coverage for Illegal Aliens... Are you anticipating building a Soilent Green Plant???? No one is going to welcome their congress person home except the small group of immediate influence and a bunch of phone press conferences featuring paid and or bussed in enthusiastic supporters. When the pace maker has to be replaced in 4 years is it going to be it's not covered, at your age, we encourage you to go to counciling for imminent death? Our Congressman is laboring under the assumption, that;s only a guess or is completely cluess, on this issue. The Folks around here, this evening They don't want him to come back. Democrats, most every one, say they won't vote for him again. People are mad and the whole range of being upset. No one is threatened anyone but it would do well for our treasonous Congressmen and women to stay, in Washington, it seems. No doubt the inner city if Chicago might welcome them as well as other socialist enclaves. If this Legislation was for the People it wouldn't be threatening and oppressive. It wouldn't include things that will decimate our economy and our immediate pocket books, like coverage for Mexico's Nationals taking American's jobs and driving up our taxes etc.

Like I said, Obama's cousin read the bill. All 2700 pages, and found the rationing.
In addition, the IRS is going to hire up to 16,000 new agents and auditors.
Hmmm. I wonder how much of the health care bill is for health care.
