I have 96 pontiac gran am and the wipers will not return to the bottom of the window...

u need a new wiper ass. not the motor

the wipers will stop where i turn the switch off.

Wipers have very complicated wiring, check the bolts that hold the wiper motor to cowl, also check for a ground strap. Poor grounding often causes wipers not to " park " but allows them to operate.
