At long last I seemed to have cured this knock from left rear car(on my car at least!) . Rear sway bar is supported by two rubber bushings with a metal "cap" to hold it against suspension assembly. The sway bar is then located within the two bushes by two crimp on sleeves which butt up against the bushes/caps. This stops the bar from moving backwards and forwards across the car when a bump is hit. On my case there was about 4mm where the bar could move across the car before hitting against the locating sleeves. I loosened the bolt on cap, shifted to where it more closely contacted the sleeve and retightened. Havnt done the one behind the muffler yet ( bit harder to get at) but even now it certainly is quieter. The problem was fairly obvious allowing a quick inspection. On the LHS where you can see bush easily, the sway bay will be dirty but there will be a clean area adjacent to the bush where the bar rubs back and forth. May not be a cure all but for 10-15 minutes and a 14 mm socket/spanner its worth a try. A round file could elongate the mounting holes if there isnt enough movement in the bracket. Have a good Christmas folks. Just have to sort out the squeeking dash now. John
