Diesel Isuzu Trooper Turbo Diesel 2.8 engine (8000882125)

Guys, someone oughta look into this on ebay (no, its not mine). I emailed the guy who has it listed twice and asked him what the engine came out of,
how he came to have it, and what was needed to put it into a Trooper (wiring harness, switches, etc). The first time he replied he said all that was needed was to drain the gas tank and fill it with diesel. I asked him again, more or less the same question, but with more detail - and he still didnt' tell me how he came to have the engine, whether or not he had the rest of the truck, and what other parts were needed for a swap with a gasoline engine. Here's what he said.....

As of tonight, (Wednesday, 2100 CST), there's a day and 21 hours left on this auction. I personally won't bet $3500 on an engine of dubious value to me, although I'd love to have a diesel in my Trooper, without having the whole truck to scavenge parts off of, but someone in this group may be interested....so have at 'er if you have the courage (and money). Not only that, but "she who must be obeyed" has informed me that she does NOT want a diesel in our truck..... so I guess that's that... .I gotta put up with the crummy mileage of my 98 Trooper.
If someone buys this, I'd sure like to know how it turns out. r/ Steve

Seems to me that it ought to be reasonably easy to get an engine out of a Trooper somewhere overseas and have it shipped in...? I guess the big question is what all it would really take to get it to work... I think if I would have had the choice, I would have gotten one in our 2002 Trooper - especially since we tow a travel trailer with it. But, with just over 20k miles on it now, I'm not about to go messing with stuff...at least not until the 10/120k warranty is up. :-)

My sentiments exactly. To answer your earlier post, I think a guy could, given help from friends overseas, purchase a used engine from a diesel Isuzu Trooper, but having done enough swaps to know the problems, there's always little things you don't think of, and having the original vehicle which the diesel came out of is very helpful and sometimes mandatory. That's the problem - getting that vehicle into the US. Used engines don't have titles - whole trucks do, and getting a whole / part of a truck through customs is sometimes very difficult, sometimes impossible.
Alarm bells went off in my head when I saw the address and the way he answered me (or didn't, as the case is here).
I have a Japanese buddy that has one of the newer Isuzu diesel troopers - its quiet, sounds great, runs good, and has plenty of pep. Only problem is that it is right hand drive - and will never be allowed in the US due to lack of emissions testing compliance. r/ Steve

Another thing I thought of too...for the 98 and up Troopers, aren't they running the 3.1TD? I believe the 2.8 is for the older Troopers... But, never fear...he has one of those up for auction too! :-)

I think the series was 2.8 then 3.1 and then from about 1999 -2002 were 3.0 liter capacity. Mine is a 1999 so I'm sure of that vintage's engine.

Ray, you have a 1999 Diesel Isuzu trooper? Are you in the US? If so, how did you get it? If you're not, is your troop a right-hand drive or left? r/ Steve

Yes I have the 99 diesel Trooper, in the EU, LHD, 2-door, rebadged by Opel. Wanna buy it? Its got about 35K miles (47K km) on the clock and you can take it away for <checks the list price of new 2-door Landcruiser> about 50K Euros :-/ Love my Trooper and I've decided its my last car cause they can go for 300K miles if you take care of them, so with my mileage its good for about 50 years! God knows what I'll do if its wrecked, Isuzu isnt building them anymore (cause they last so long!) except maybe in Japan (RHD). There was also a stockpile of 2002 models (the last year of production) in the UK, which is also also RHD..
