Heating fan in a xj 40

Hi,

I have a 1988 xj 40 that has a interior fan that won't turn off or slow down. It will turn off when the switch is in the off position, but in turning the dial on the console from hi fan to low fan there is no effect. It just keeps lumbering on. Very annoying. Anyone have experience with this particular malady? Is there a procedure for me to troubleshoot it so I can hone in on the guilty part?

Thank you for any help.

Hi Geoff,

I rebuilt both of my electronic boards using the components shown in the article on the jag-lovers site. I was able to use the existing pc board as there was no damage apparent. After assembling the components on to the pcb, I cleaned the flux off and then sprayed the assembly with Clear Polyeurathane as a protectant. The rebuilt pcb was then mounted into the fan housing, as original. This is advisable because the air passing the Transistor provides cooling. I have had no further problems with the fans.

Thank you for your input. I'll be getting under the hood as soon as the weather breaks.
