Insurance Quotes (UK)

Hi all, I've been looking at buying a 5.3 Sovereign circa 1988 for about £1500.

The insurance company I use for our current car quoted in the region of £330. So, the questions are, Does this quote sound good? Bear in mind it's for Owner and spouse to drive, 4 years NCB, parked on drive, 6000 miles a year, Thatcham immobiliser, TPF&T. Would the insurance be dramatically less for a 3.2 Jag or 4.0? Cheers, Steve

Hi Nick. I'm not too concerned at that price but if the insurance for a 3.2 would be considerably lower, it would seem to be a waste of money to get a 5.3 litre. The actual size of the engine isn't the be-all and end-all of my choice of car. It's just that in my area the bigger cats are cheaper to buy initially.

I pay £197 per year Fully Comprehensive on a 1988 XJ-S insured at £8500 with 8000 miles restricted per year - I have a Thatcham Approved Alarm, the car is garaged and used only for travel to/from the Station (ie. not business travel).

Jaguar Drivers Club quoted me £250 which of course is on top of the £60 odd pounds per year membership fee and as I rarely used them for anything other than cheap insurance I have of course not renewed this year.

My current insurer is the AA (Yes - I was surprised also.)
