I have an AJ6 3.6 litre with 198,000 XK 4.2 litre with 122,000+ XK 3.4 litre with Unknown miles
I've had more problems with the my Dodge 5.0L 318CI V-8 with 90,000 miles and my Nissan V-6 than any of the Jaguar engines. The Nissan engine in the 300ZX was made with a cloth impregnated rubber timing belt that has to be changed every 40,000 to 50,000 miles. In order to do that, the engine must be removed or the entire front of the car taken off. If the belt goes whilst driving, the pistons ram into the valve and destroy the engine. Talk about poor engineering!!
I must say, however that I have had to replace the silly little pump to rail hose that runs under the exhaust manifold twice in 50,000 miles on the AJ6 engine!!
240,000 miles 1973 XK 4.2 before car was totaled.
205,000 miles 1986 XK 4.2 before car was sold.
Both cars ran good but the interior failed in the california heat long before the engines. Bought both cars with about 100k miles. Only changed the oil, spark plugs, cap/rotor, and plug wires. Never bothered to adjust the valves.
