31's and 4.10 gear ratio... will I like it?

I've been buggin' ya'll (hell, ALL ya'll!) about my upcoming regearing project for a while now. Bear with me; I'll get it done soon and then I'll bug you about something else !

I am planning on some 31's (from the 30's I have now with my 3.07 gear ratio) as soon as I regear. Why not 33's, you ask? Well, this is a dual-purpose vehicle to the extreme; I need to keep it polite for when I take the Volvo on the 30-mile commute to work and my wife drives the kids on local errands or whatever in my TJ. In other words, I can't afford yet another car, already got the TJ, Volvo, and a pickup, so the TJ needs to stay road-friendly. So no lift and 33's for now.

So. I am regearing to 4.10 to give myself some future breathing room. True-Track LSD's front and rear at the same time. Is my Jeep gonna be too jumpy and mule-ish with 4.10's and 31's ON ROAD, or will it be a little low-geared but serviceable? Off-road, shit, the lower the better, not worried at all about that.

Thanks ya'll! Hell, ALL ya'll !

Is my Jeep gonna be too

You'll be fine, thats the exact setup the new Rubicons have. You can go to a dealer and test drive a Rubi, see what you think Tookie - Denham Springs, LA

my rubi is this exact setup. I really like it's "jack rabbit" snap off the light. you might watch the "jumpiness" in first gear but other than that, it will be great around town. It seems to "wind out" a bit on the Interstate but not bad. Small sacrifice for the great response.. you will like it.

I have 32" tires and 5 gears.I don't often use the 5th anymore.I think my Sport"Apex" has 3.07 gears.Would the 4.10 reduce the "windout" in 5th gear?-Hank.

Do a search on the following thread, it generated a good discussion and should provide greater insight...
