97 grand jeep cherokee loredo

Hello, my name is millicent and I know this might be long put I need help I dont now much about my jeep but after having these problems I think I'm going to buy the haynes manual. I have been having major problems with my car. It all started when one day while I was driving, I stop at the light, then all of a sudden my car shuts off completely engine and power, and the no check light were coming on. I had to put it back to park and and start the car and it started back up with no problems, then again as I was slowing down it shut off again and the same thing it started with no problems. A few days went by and it happened again but this time it was hesitating to start I had to put my foot in the gas pedal for a while for it to start right. It shuts off when I'm slowing down or at a stop. Its like I can't slow down or stop or it will shut off. Sometimes it will happen and sometimes it wouldn't. I took it to the dealer and they said that it was the crank sensor and ignition coil and also had a service on the throttle body, after I paid all that money I get it back and the next day it shuts off on me again. I didnt even want to take it back to the dealers again, so I take it to another machanic and he replaces the Idle control valve and fuel filter and it was still shuting off and every time I had put it on park the rpm will go down to 0 like it wanted to shut off. I had my husband check on it and he says it still dirty so he takes the part out, (I'm not sure if its the throttle body that he took out and cleaned, but it's a part where the Idle control valve is conected to). Well he cleans it and now there is another problem, when I start the car my car accelerates to 2 the rpm without me putting my foot in the gas and the check engine light comes on. That was the first time my check engine light came on. I tried to drive it and now it jerks to much when I'm starting to drive and as I speed up and take my foot off the gas it takes a long time to slow down. As I stop the rpm is on 1 and my car sounds like its still running to high, and when I put on park it goes all the way to 2 rpm. Now that's why I'm here now, could somebody please help.

You could easily be describing a dirty connection at the throttle position sensor or a dead sensor.

Ours gets the stalling and 2000 rpm issue every couple years. I use a contact cleaner on the plugs and sockets on the throttle body and am good to go again.

Contact cleaner can be found at electronic supply houses or in a pinch you can use WD40. WD40 isn't as good, so the fix doesn't last as long, but it does work.

You need some assertiveness training.

If you paid the dealer to fix your Jeep and the dealer said that he did fix your Jeep and took your money, the dealer has an obligation that the repair was done correctly and this repair has resolved your complaints written on the repair order.

You need to take your Jeep back to the dealer and ask nicely that the service manager review your repair order and your Jeep (that is still not drivable) and resolve the issue.

Don't let the dealer off the hook by being too afraid to go back and complain that the repair and your dollars didn't fix your Jeep.

You are entitled to a complete repair that fixes your complaints about your Jeep or a refund of all the money you paid the dealer to fix your Jeep.

Take your husband with you to the dealer if it makes you feel better. Don't yell and scream, but ask "nicely" to have the matter resolved.

When you get back from the dealership, post a note here to us and tell us how it went.

Thank you for your input Dave, but Mike Romain resolved the problem I was having. I wanted to take it back, but once I called them about the problem, that it wasn't fixed, they just said that if they found another problem they would charge me for it and that just made me real mad, so I didn't want to take it back there anymore. Thanks anyway Dave. It was the Throttle body sensor and I can't believe the dealers couldn't figure that out. That's just my lost of money now, but God is good It'll come back to me.

Thanks

Millicent
