97 ZJ Air Intake Hose Keeps Coming Loose

Keeps coming loose at both ends. The fittings on the plastic air boxes at both ends seem to have become tapered. Looking for a cheap reliable fix.

Was thinking about just drilling and sticking some screws in but it occurs to me that that might end up cracking the plastic. Also thought about getting some big hose clamps but not sure they'll help with the fittings tapered. Or there's always glue--any experience-based suggestions on one that would work well or that doesn't work?

Looked at aftermarket replacements for the whole assembly and the prices are ludicrous.

What ever happened to the simple old fashioned air cleaner that just sat in a disk-shaped can on top of the engine with no hoses?

Note that I'm not looking for "high performance" or "a custom look" or any of that claptrap, just something that will keep filtered air going into the engine and that preferably is cheap and not gonna go bust again six months down the road.

Time for some good ol' fashioned Yankee ingenuity!

Just watch anything that could be sucked down the intake. That's what makes me leery of screws and like.

Self vulcanizing rubber tape, clean surface and one turn should seal it up nicely.

If you are handy with a heat gun, you could warm the fittings up ...carefully... and expand them a bit with a bottle end or some other tapered item.
