98 TJ Service Manual

Hey All, Problem finding a decent manual for my TJ....I want a factory service manual (have one for my girl's XJ) but can't seem to find one. Have a Haynes, but is junk. Chilton's no good either, both are for YJ mostly, and I am VERY interested in what very single wire does on my Jeep. I am building super duper "you can't steal my Jeep" alarm/lock everything/shut-off everything/zap the thief/can't tow it/mace the thief/call my phone/etc etc "alarm" system, so the right wires are very important, plus I am adding another TJ wiring harness in addition to the current one (love EBay) for a

24V system (don't ask, long story).

So anyway, I need a factory service manual for a 98 TJ and I can't find it.

TIA, Joe

Uh, have you by any chance asked your Jeep dealer's parts department to order you one? Or called that (800) number (or is that a mail-in order form?) in the back of your owner's manual that is specifically for the shop manual? It's not hard to find Jeep manuals, the dealers are in the business of selling you anything with Jeep's name on it. :)

I just looked through the link Bill posted for TechAuthority below & see that the 2001 TJ service manual is available on CD. Has anyone else purchased that version? What format is it in? That would be very interesting, particularly if it's searchable.

If you're quick, you may find them in PDF format on the binary e-book> news groups.

All,

Thanks a bunch, I know about the TechAuthority, but last time I was there I found nothing for a 98 TJ(operator error apparently ;-) ) I was asking b/c I am trying to avoid $120 at the dealer, who also could not anything in his 'puter but the price (some BS excuse about not being able to order, I stopped listening to the southern drawl), but they are not the only dealer around, and I just asked while I was there trying to get them to get the friggin wheel lock off my spare (lost key....oops) but they didn't have the key.

So anyway, thanks all.

It is for a 97, see them all the time, I need a 98....last time I saw one on EBay it went for $180, which seems really F-ed up, why do they appear to be so rare??? I just don't know.

I bought mine last year for 60 quid ( was about 90 bucks at the time IIRC) from the dealer.
