Windshields are not bad at all....but thanks to one of my fine fellow citizens, (loser theif), I know have to replace the backseat passenger door window on my '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo. Safelite $250, 89glass $375! (on site repair).
I think I've had the front whole windshield replaced for less than $200 before. Yes I told 89glass their price seem a tad high....they have no shame in justifying it. I sense this end of the market (side/rear window) feels they've got you over a barrel and know you've gotta make a decision in 24-48 hours, plus I sense they rely on consumers having their insurance cover the cost so they are not that price concerned.
Learned all this this morning. I see a window on Ebay for $50. I am paying for this myself, not reporting it to my insurance company as it will cost me more in the big picture/long term w/increased premium...
Are these things terribly difficult to install yourself? I can take it to my "all around mechanic guy" who's pretty good. Whaddaya think? Should I just say the hell with it and pay Safelite?
Thanks for your 2 cents! Andrew
