diesel wrangler

Is there any news on the diesel wrangler yet ? I would buy one and pay MSRP today ! The 3.8L gas motor is very marginal for this vehicle. The 3.0L diesel in the grand cherokee would be awesome in the wrangler. I bet it would get 30 / 35 mpg.

I'm with you. If the new Wrangler came with a small diesel like the one from the new GC I would be at the dealer signing papers.

Lynn, when you read "this is the real deal and is going to happen" in a web site, blog or whatever, it actually means that it is never going to happen, or if by some incredible freak occurrence it does happen, then you wouldn't want it, like Vista.

Maybe. Here is more talking about it:

This one now says "Jeep Performance may offer diesel engine swap kit for Wrangler". You have to know how to interpret media hype, but I believe that this one actually means, "It probably won't happen, and if it does, then you wouldn't want it, just like Vista."

My desire for a diesel engine ranks about even with my desire for genital herpes, I'd really like to see diesels completely outlawed.

As for Vista, it works to perfection for all of us who RTFM and do our homework. I like it and would hate to have to regress to XP.

I don't think we're gonna see that. I do actually think we will eventually see a diesel in a Wrangler or Wrangler-like vehicle, but it will take some time and I really, really doubt the existence of this "conversion kit".

I wish you could speak Spanish, so you could go over to the Argentine newsgroup and try to explain that to all of them there. Try substituting "Linux" above if it makes you feel better about it.

I know but it sure would be great for those of us who are violently allergic to diesel exhaust. It was better on the motorcycle, at least I could puke on the trunk of the Mercedes that was poisoning me... ;-)

I already did, you can translate for me. Vista works for those who RTFM and do their homework, it doesn't for those who do not.

Exactly the same applies. I RTFM, did my homework and learned years back that Linux wouldn't work for me, it doesn't support my hardware nor does it allow needed software to run w/o Wine or Crossover Office which makes it not an option for me. I've wasted a great deal of time trying to get it working but it doesn't and I see no reason to whine about it like the clueless do about Vista.

One time in Spain, in the Burgos bus depot, a fellow tourist from Los Angeles almost fainted from the clean air. I had to help him to the back of one of the buses so that he could get a good whiff of the diesel exhaust, straight from the exhaust pipe of the bus. It brought him right around. ;^)

What you are talking about is quite real. I know a woman who has it.

Cheers,

Earle

I could see it coming - they do a diesel in the Patriot, GC, Commander and Liberty. Bet the Wrangler is just a matter of time, and essential if they want to sell vehicles in Europe.

Jeep is a luxury marque in Europe, ¿no? It could run on Champagne and you fellows would still buy it. Over here, it has to run on the cheap stuff at the pump. Damn, I remember sunflower oil being cheaper than petrol.

Till more private vehicles started using it and cargo moved from train to truck transport. Not to mention the high taxes.

At least a diesel can run on frygrease and industrial canola oil. Couple of folks at work run frygrease and have for nearly a year now. I looked into the cost of buying industrial vegetable oil in

55 gal drums. After shipping it's almost the same as diesel.

Nope, you got that completely wrong. Diesel *is* the cheap stuff. With fuel prices a lot more expensive here ($8.05 per US gallon), the difference between a 18mpg truck and a 28 mpg truck is what drives people.

People *don't* buy the Wrangler. They buy the more expensive Defender 90. Which is admittedly probably better out of the box, but runs on diesel. These diesels are getting damn good now - the V6 3.0 turbo in the Disco 3 is more powerful than the 4.0 v8 in the Disco 2 and the torque is waaay better.

What gets me is why they don't do diesel-electric for the hybrid vehicles. Diesel engines are way better at running generators and if designed for fixed rpm can get even better economy.

dunno - that's how trains work !

"Over here, it has to run on the cheap stuff..." Over here, I don't think we are going to see a diesel Wrangler any time soon. I don't think they can price them high enough to put a diesel in either, even in the European market. It's not exactly a family vehicle, even the ghetto-cruiser four door that has me continually looking twice to make sure it is not an H3.

Once we get $8.00 petrol, then things will be different. But we're still at $3.25, even where I live which is a historically high price region.

Jeep ships a 2.8L 4 banger diesel to Europe in the Wrangler. It is the same engine that was available in the 2005-2006 Jeep Liberty here in the USA (

Why not here in the USA ? Even in the UK:
