Help, JGC rear speakers low volume

I need some hints on why the two rear speakers in 97 grand cherokee limited with infinity gold system do not produce loud sound. The stock radio was replaced with a pioneer DEH-P4000, which has 45Wx4 output. When I looked through google's newsgroup search, I noticed someone said that the infinity gold amp needs speaker level input, while pioneer provides only RCA output to amp. anyway, I just hooked up the wires as if there were no amp. the front speakers and tweeters turned out to be good, but the rear speakers only made a minimum among of sound, like a small portable radio, even if I adjust balance entirely to the rear and the volume to maximum. however, the bass seems to be enough.

what might be the problem. also, I have no idea how much power the stock amp cranks out. If I look for aftermarket speakers, in term of power, what kind of I should look for to take full advantage of the stock amp without wasting money. since the headunit claims 45wx4, would it better just skip the amp and hook up speakers directly to the headunit?

also a personal taste, the infinity reference 6002i I replaced sounds much worst than the stock ones.

thanks
