Memory Seat Disabiled error sign ???

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Each time I drive it, I get this message on the console readout.

Memory Seat Disabled

Anyone have any idea of why I am getting this message, after not getting it for the first 9 years ??

Thanks !!

Throwing out a few ideas.

Do you get another message for "Seatbelt fastened" ? If so it's a bad switch in the seatbelt unit. The seats won't adjust if they think you have the seatbelt fastened.

From the book.

MEMORY SYSTEM DISABLED - The memory system is automatically disabled while the driver side seat belt is fastened and/or while the automatic transmission gear selector is in any position except Park or Neutral. This message appears in the EVIC display as a reminder when a memory switch push button is depressed while the memory system is disabled. If the REMOTE LINKED TO MEMORY customer programmable feature has been selected, this message will also appear when the Unlock button of the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is depressed while the memory system is disabled.

If it's having problems in Park, try Neutral. The neutral safety switch might be having issues.

Doug, this is a bit amazing............ I do in fact think that I am having a problem with the neutral switch, as every now and then the engine will hesitate before it starts turning over, and I "believe" that at times I have to push the shift stick well-forward before it will allow the engine to crank. I think that in most cases, that indicates a bad neutral switch.

I would have my mechanic replace it, but is that a hard job on this 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee ?

I do wonder if this Memory Seat Disabled message is connected to the possible neutral switch defect which I have had for about six months now.

Thanks for your quick reply.........

From what I understand it's not terribly hard and in some cases it can be repaired. For ref: not sure this is your part.

no problem. I've got no life besides usenet. :(

Actually, I'm just waiting for gasket material to set up before refilling the transmission fluid. Next up is a new set of plugs and nosqueek for the front pads (ran out when I did the brakes) I'm not going anywhere for a few hours.

Amazing thing is, nothing is better for my back than cardboard on concrete. If it wasn't for the wind I'd probably drag a pillow out there and catch a few Z's.
