anyone wired up a 2000 Cherokee for towing behind a motorhome?? The motorhome has a small round 4 pin connecter in the rear bumper. Wondering how to wire rear lights.

As others have suggested magnetic lights are probably the "easiest". I decided to hard wire my Jeep so it would be super quick and easy to hitch up and go.

What you need to do is isolate your Jeeps electrical system from the power of the RV. In other words when you step on the RV's brake, power flows from that 4 port connector to the Jeeps brake lights. You don't want that power to go anyplace else, ie the Jeeps dash, computers or other electrical components. You also don't want the power from the Jeep to flow back into your RV. The way you do this is by isolating the rear lights with diodes. A diode is like an electrical one way valve, current can flow in one direction only.

Here's a place that sells kits:

If your even a little bit of a do it yourselfer you can do this sort of project using one of these kits. If you're more advanced you can buy everything you need at the RV place and Radio Shack for a fraction of the cost of the kit, but then you don't get the instructions.

Good luck, Dean

I installed a light kit on my '99. The tail lens assy has an extra "chamber" to install another lamp. You will have to drill a 1 1/8 inch hole in the tail lens assembly. I bought the lighting kit at Camping World, I'm sure you could get it form any store specializing in towing products. The kit was easy to install installed and is isolated form the GC electrical system.
