Hella 500's. Best bang for the buck! I put a set of Hella 500 driving lights on my wifes TJ last year and they are great!

So long as your wife doesn't use them as fog lights with low beams on the street. She must do a lot of night time off roading. Ever ask her why? :)

Driving lights are wired up with high beams if you decide to become legal on the street with them. Fog lights are wired up with the low beams.

I have the Hella 500 clear fogs on my Sahara where the stock fogs used to be.

actually i want to put some rock lights on my rubicon. the 6" rounds are to big for rock lights, and i just cant bring myself to put square lights on a jeep. ;-)

since you mention it though, a couple mounted on the rhino bumper would look pretty sick, thanks bill.

Mainly it depends on how much you want to spend and whether your loyal to any one brand. I have found that some of the "no name" cheapies out there actually are pretty good. Unless your buying them for a look stay away from chromed housings, the plastic housings are much better specifically if your buying cheaper lights. After you have installed them please make sure you have them aimed correctly.... I hate when the ricers and wanna be ricers drive with poorly aimed fog lights and head lights... But they hate it even more when I'm forced to turn on my 100 watters (wired to the battery and technically illegally wired up, they can be turned on anytime)

cool.....gotta link? i have no intention of buying upper end lights for what ill be using them for. just a matter of time before they get bashed anyway. i used to run kc daylighters on my atv until i got tired of it costing me $150 every time i rolled it over. now i run the $16 wal mart lights it.

i _hate_ chrome anything on a jeep, so thats not a concern.

certainly.....straight down. :-)

Nathan Collier did pass the time by typing:

Ah.. Go get a cheap set of fogs with clear lenses. That way if you nail one it's not an expensive fix. PepBoys/AutoZone etc. Reason for the fogs is they have a much wider pattern than driving/spot lamps.

I use these on the ZJ, They take a standard bulb and held up real well.

Not sure of the original vendor.

My advice is go to your local NAPA or tractor supply and get some of those inexpensive round rubber-housed sealed beam utility lights. Given that they will probably see more than their share of kicked up stones, etc, might make better sense to install cheaper, easliy replaceable lights.

Thassa only about as bright as a normal headlight... Aircraft landing lights are what folks who want to see waayyyyy out there tend to use.

Yeah, but if he adds a set of pedals, he might be able to pedal fast enough to get about another quarter horsepower or so...

Or similar. Another good one if you can find it is the old rally light, the Cibie Super Oscar. Hella, Cibie, and oddly enough Lucas all make good rally lights, which is what y'all appear to be looking for, also used in desert offroading races.

What voltage do aircraft lights use out of interest ? I bet it's high...
