OT, gas prices.

I went to San Marcos, California, last week and saw gas prices from a low of $3.099 at Costco in Palm Desert to $3.59. Costco here is $2.839 but I didn't see any price under $3.00 in California.

Are prices pretty much the same in Northern California as they are around Southern California? How about other states?

FWIW, the highest price I saw was a station tonight that had a sign saying Regular Unleaded was $29.19 but they screwed up the decimal point, they meant $2.919 (I hope?)

Show Low Arizona is hovering around $3.02, but last week I drove up to the Apache Reservation and filled up for $2.89. It's probably just a draw for the casino. You get cheap gas and then (hopefully) drop some $$ at the slots. I just filled up and headed home :-)

West coast of Canada with Can dollar being higher then US right now it works out to $4.09 a gallon Canadian, $3.97 US, so much for Alberta tar sands being viable helping us out any up here.

Do the Apache have to charge state gas tax?

I notice there's a station in Maricopa that has very stable prices and I don't think it relates to proximity to Harrah's Ak Chin Casino because if Phoenix prices are low, that station is higher, if Phoenix prices are high then it's lower and if Phoenix prices are in the midrange that station is the same as Phoenix. I think that place shows the real price w/o the artificial raising and lowering that local stations do.

A friend who travels there regularly says it is $8.00 a gallon in Oslo. He got one of those deals where you go, buy a Volvo, drive it around and finally import it as a used car. Volvos don't exactly sip gas either, not the one he got. Gas prices are screwy. It has recently been cheaper in Needles and in Silverton than it is in Durango. Today it is $3.05 at the Triangle Conoco in town, but $3.09 at Peerless Tire in Durango, the cheapest outlet there.

Cheers,

Earle

Probably not. When I eat in the casino restaurant there is no tax on the meal. Decent food and reasonably priced. Just close your eyes and walk by them slots :-)

The local guy in Silverton claims to do that. Takes the price the distributor gives him and adds a fixed amount or percentage. I didn't believe him until last week when I saw him selling cheaper than Durango.

A friend was in Turkey and reported gas there was $8/gallon three years ago! I can't imagine what it might be now?

Prices ARE screwy, I think they're controlled more by the price at other stations than they are by wholesale prices.

with the imperial gallon that works out to USD 3.176 / US Gallon

here in SE Michigan it is ranging from $2.98 to $3.08 depending on what day of the week (it seems like Thursday is the day all the stations try to ratchet up their prices and see if they'll hold).

Before leaving Southeast Iowa the day after Christmas on a trip up to Wisconsin, filled up at $2.68/gallon. Came home the very next day and prices were up to $2.88/gallon. Averaged 20mpg at 65-70mph. 97 XJ 4.0L

ouch!

You woud think with the North Sea rigs in your backyard that gas would be a bit more reasonable.

Interesting that I can't find a site similar to gasbuddy for Scotland or England, just a few things on production stats. I wonder, does Scotland have a national fuel system like Italy where the price is fixed across the whole nation?

2007 Q2Thousand tonnes Percentage change on a year earlier Oil production 19,688 +2.8 Refinery 21,242 +1.2 throughput Net exports 790 - Primary demand 19,591 -1.3
