Ping DougW Gasket under the 4.0 ZJ throttle body?

Is there a gasket under the throttle body that I would want to go buy before taking the thing off for cleaning? The dealer being a few miles away and the temperature in the 90's and all.

Or does it just tighten down to fit?

Not Doug, but every engine I've ever seen has a gasket under the throttle body. I would recommend getting one. The original will more than likely tear or break when you remove the TB.

Your correct, there is a gasket and it will fall apart.

Thing is you don't actually need to take the TB off to clean it and I don't recommend you do. All it takes is an old toothbrush and some TB cleaner. If you feel the need you can take the IAC off and give it a scrubbing, but I wouldn't even do that unless there was too much in there to just flush out.

The TB I show was taken off the intake to make way for a supercharger and a larger bore TB. It's actually sitting in my tool chest.

If you decide to take the TB off, remember the bolts only go to

9 ft.lbs That's 9 lbs of force on a 1ft wrench. Not a lot. Too tight and you can bend the ears on the TB and cause leaks around the base.

Thanks, I do have a pretty good set of torque wrenches, including one specialized for very low torque.

Reason I was planning to remove it was to make it easier to clean and just poke around since it has never been off yet.

Just wanted to be sure.

One thing you never want to do is start the jeep with the IAC motor off its base. The pintle will shoot out and that's it for the motor. From what I've read it is nearly impossible to get the little bugger back in.
