TJ Clutch

'99 TJ. The plastic fastener holding the clutch pedal to the clutch cylinder actuator (is what the FSM calls it anyway hehehe) broke today, leaving me in a lurch at a busy intersection. Long story, not a lot of fun. Anyway, I called the dealer (two of them actually) and it appears that the plastic fastener is only available as part of the entire clutch unit. Go figure. I currently have a nut and bolt combo holding the two together. Got me home, but I'm not real happy with the solution.

Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, what was your solution? Only thing I can come up with at this point is hit the wrecking yard and see if I can get one from another TJ.

Welding? Bit more than I'm capable of I'm afraid. :-)

don't know if this will help - but it looks like these guys have almost everything - maybe something might come close to what you need (& be cheap, too)

I'm very careful to follow the old rule: if it don't fit don't force it - get a bigger hammer .

Seriously, you could probably take the push rod out of the cylinder and carry it to a local machinist and have him make you a new fitting for a whole lot less than the new setup would cost. One other option I ran across was that Parts America here has a listing for a rebuild kit for either the master or slave cylinders that includes the connecting rod you broke.
