Unimog parts, Placerville?

I have heard there is a Unimog guy in Placerville, CA. Anyone know who he is and how to contact him?

Sorry, but you are not allowed to mention Unimog's in this Jeep-Willys newsgroup. It is apparently against the charter. Several of the 'locals' were quick to point this out when someone dared to mention Toyota recently.

I'm pretty sure Unimogs don't fit into Billy's definition of "Amerikan" either.

We can however have long boring threads about 'pirate' airplanes even though as far as i can tell neither Kaiser, Willys, Jeep nor DC have ever built such flying machines.

It is also a news group charter violation: ftp://ftp.uu.net/usenet/news.announce.newgroups/rec/rec.autos.makers....

Last I read, DC makes both Jeep and Unimog.

I live about 20 miles from Placerville and never heard of one but I did a Google search on unimog placerville and found a site. If this does not answer the question then I will go down to Jim's Auto (Jeep guy) and ask around.

As an aside I think that the infamous Bill and I were at Baumholder, Germany at about the same time. I remember when they introduced the M151 "Jeep" which was actually made by Ford, and I heard, "This is not a *real* Jeep!" followed by some sort of an explosion, and I never went to the motor pool again.

Bill was your stereotypical dumbass 11 Bravo who was not allowed to actually drive any Army vehicle.

Anyways, if you are actually in serious need of off-road ground transport under the most adverse conditions the Unimog is it. Comparing it to what we have here in America-well, we don't have anything like that here, since Americans mostly buy 4WD to piss around with on rocks as opposed to actually getting there and back.

The Unimog is not, however, for dilettantes.

-stuf snipped-

I called Jim O'Brian, who has worked on Jeeps for years in Placerville. He did not know who that would be, but suggested:

Hangtown Extreme 4x4

530 622-1412

I called, and the clerk said they would return the call, but haven't, so far.

Hangtown Foreign Car Service

530 626-9034

I called, but no one home.

Since you'd have to talk direct anyway, there's the numbers.

Also he mentioned that, years ago, there was a specialist in South Lake Tahoe, but I find nothing in the phone book.

Good Luck!
