Used detroit

Would you buy a used detroit for an AMC 20 rearend, $300.00 US? Would be about $100.00 US on top of that for shipping and duty. Or should I just bite the bullet and pay the $900.00 Canadian for new, and no jokes about $300.00 US being $900.00 Can. Greg

I wouldn't install a Detroit into an AMC 20 if it were mine... especially if you're still running the weak OE 2-piece axleshafts that they came with.

I have a Detroit in my AMC20 with Superior Gear one-piece axles.

In my humble opinion, the Detroit is bullet proof and if you can get one for

300 delivered to your door, jump on it.

If it is a good Detroit, inspected and given a clean bill of health by a reputable gear shop, it should last as long as a new one. Also, if you provide the numbers on the casting to Tractech customer service, they can tell you when it was manufactured and whether it is an old style or the newer "soft locker." (The only real difference between the two is that the "soft locker" is a bit quieter when it disengages. They work the same.) I bought mine used . No regrets.
