here's the scoop. My wife is a total loss adjuster for a Major insurance carrier(GMAC). IF the adjuster declairs it a total loss, that is the repairs cost more then the lowest Kelly bluebook value. then you have the following options. you can have the car repaired at your cost with the insuramce companys discout using aftermarket or used parts. 2. buy it as SALVAGE from the insurance company. you are buying it at scrape metal cost, and you repair it. But you will not be offered collision or comprehensive on the car-ever and the chassis registration will carry a salvage notation on it. If they repair it at their body shop or authorized repair shop, all insurance will be offered depending on the age and net(ACV) actual cash value of the car and the work will be guaranteed by the insurance company. in other words you pay the difference + deductable. I suggest get the field adjusters report, and get a second body shop estimate and speak (nicely) to the inside adjuster. If the frame is distorted, it might cost more to straighen and repair then to buy another of the same age and milage. The adjusters really do try to bend over backwards to help you if possible, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet unless you have a relative that owes you, and has a body shop.
