Roof rack on 2004 Kia Sedona: get from dealer, or elsewhere?

I'd like to put a roof rack on my 2004 Kia Sedona. Do I need to get it from a Kia dealer, or is there another source?

Thanks!

Not on the cheaper model.

Hmmm...might not be worth it, then. Anything we would want to carry up there would probably weigh more than that.

Hi,

We purchased the Sedona LX model 2 weeks ago. It doesn't have the roof rack, as you know. We had one put on at the dealer - negotiated with the purchase. It took them a day to do it, but because it is dealer installed, you do get a warranty with it. I'm not sure of the cost, bu we wanted to stay with the original equipment, then if there is any problem with rusting, etc. later on, we can go back to the dealer.

I did carry home 3 4x8 sheets of drywall on the racks tonight. Seemed to work ok. The sticker on the side of the rack says "Max. load 100 pounds evenly distributed". I'm not sure what the weight of the drywall is; I would guess it's a bit over the 100 pounds??? I'll look in the daylight and make sure the roof's not caved in! :-)

You're not going to find any roof rack that lists it's rated weight as much higher than 100lbs. If any more than that goes on the roof of any SUV/van it'll adversely affect the handling.

Yeah, I had a roof rack on my '95 Jimmy that only handled 80 lbs. Just as long as my kayak fit... :)

It's a bit of a lift to put the kayak on the Sedona, but I'm tall. Heck I keep hitting my head on the darn liftgate when I'm loading stuff in the back.
