Saftey Issue for Sedona drivers side seat - creaks and loose

Hello fellow Sedona drivers, I just went in for my second oil change and complained that the driver's side seat was creaking and was moving during stops and starts. The KIA dealership fixed it saying they needed to lubricate the joints in the seat. In my "work order" I questioned the technician what was the repair done according to the "Technical Times" they quoted? I found out that there is a known problem from KIA in their "Technical Times" page 14. The seat feels great and there is no more creaking or movement within the seat.

However, I questioned the District Parts and Service Manager for South Western Ontario of KIA Canada and he said their is no recall. Interesting, KIA is aware of the problem (which is a safety issue) yet denies the problem with their vehicle. FYI: the work described in the "technical times" tells the technicians to remove the whole seat and then re-install the seat at all pivot points, not just lubricating the joints as they may tell you when taking the car in for this repair.

Fellow drivers, this is a serious safety issue. I'm surprised, after owning a Sedona for 6 months and the drivers side seat has loosened off? Something is not right in the way the information to owner's is being distributed.

Anyone else aware of other issues with the Sedona models?

Regards, Fram

My seat creaked, and the issue was a spring rubbing against the seat frame. I hadn't noticed any movement.

My seat seems to shift ever so slightly at 2 months, but no more than new, no squeeks or anything like that. I think KIA is just like the rest of them, unless you complain about it they won't volunteer any repairs unless they have too. Ford did the same thing on a F150 I had and Dodge won't do anything unless you threaten them.

Overall, very happy with it so far, 2 months and 3000 miles, getting 22 on the highway doing 75 to 80 and about 17 average around town. Only complaint is I don't have the owners manula yet because the dealer could not find the one that was in it and he said he sent it, I don't think he did.

Time will tell, really don't think any of the US made mini-vans are as good overall, tried them all and my wife picked the 2003 Sedona EX. Little bumby on rough roads though.

It will end up as a service bulletin. The cause is improper mounting. If you want to fix it your self, Grap a ratchet, extension and a 14mm bit. Remove the 3 bolts and 1 nut( 1 bolt is welded upside down as a position point to align the seat properly) then take seat out. Next check the hardware and mounting points, make sure there clean and undamaged. All kia does is add a rubberized or cork type gasket like washer to the underside of the seat's mounting points between the carpet and seat sliders, then tightly bolts them back down in reverse order.

The seat on my Optima creaks, but I figure it's just because the Korean engineers never accounted for my fat American ass!

distributed.

Interesting,

No movement here (2002 EX purchased in 10/2001) but have had the passenger motor seemingly die a couple of times.
