110 with add on intercooler - first run with caravan

Sorry for the snappy title!

I posted recently after I had an Alisport Intercooler fitted to the

1990 110 2.5TD and I was concerned that it was running a lot hotter than usual, this was solo on a cold day. On motorway journeys it would move up to over half way across the white (whereas previously it had only just got into the white - even when towing)

Well, last weekend I took the caravan (17', about 1000kg) up to Malvern (from Trowbridge) and whilst it ran a lot hotter than usual, even under the most strenuous conditions (that 1:8 out of Bath on the A46 is a long haul!) the needle never got past the very top of the white area.

So I am now a lot more relaxed. As I was advised, the car is now probably running a better temperature than it was :-)

Cheers

Peter

Hi Peter. What are your impressions of the Alisport Intercooler having lived with it for a bit? Significant difference to performance or fuel consumption? I've been wondering about putting one on my 90.

thanks,

M

Speaking of towing and getting a shock. Towed the caravan to Gaydon....and forgot it was there - and I mean FORGOT. It's er....like driving without one. Stunning. Even the fuel consumption improved?!?!?!?!

You sorted that spit on the manifold / front pipe yet on Piglet? Chasing a similar issue here, done the manifold gaskets to no avail... next stop front pipe to manifold gasket.

Lee....nah. Piglet is still spitting. The y-pipe is cracked I think - same issue happened with my last set of genuine y-pipes :(

Bad design....bloody thing.

P.S. I wasn't towing with Piglet :-) Bagheera *and* Piglet went to Gaydon.

BTW, dunno if I pointed out this site before?

formatting link
and click on the "vehicle lookup". Online catalogue and ordering - never actually bought anything but the catalogue lookup is good.

amazingly, only get 1 hit for disco 1 3.9, which appears to have the same Y pipe-and-cats as the later 3.5s, for 300+ notes...:-(

Ford Transit came up with about 91 variants the other day.

Yeah I found one too but couldn't find the price...was late though... £300!!! I'll be getting the mig out me thinks.. I'll venture under again this week and try a new gasget first with a smear of paste... if that doesn't do it then it'll be Mr Miggy time.

Quite difficult to diagnose the source as it's A) hard to get to and B) only occuring under load / acceleration.

On the bosal site, you select the system you've decided is the one you want, then you get a list of all the parts. check the boxes for the bits you want, then click "get price".

's pricey 'cos of the 2 cats.

Most odd - I get "Export selected items" where I should get "Get a price"

Must be natures way of shutting the brain down to excessive pain ;-)
