AFL 2009 Away Day .. reprise ... ;)

OK, so we start again ... Peak District here we come ...

Looking back, most folk want it sooner rather than later, most can't do Jan, so it appears 7th or 28th Feb are best for most people who have expressed a preference.

Therefore I propose that we meet up 10am, as before, some pub somewhere on a moor, 7th Feb and follow the route we did before. This might sound a bit samey, but we know we got Nige's RR down without scratching it, so we know it opens the day for everyone, we know they are good trails, challenging without being wreckers unless you're a feckwit .. though maybe standard Freelanders might have some issues ... ;)

So, anyone up for it, post your name here ... If anyone wants a different date, different format, whatever, f*ck off and start a new thread please ... ;)

Roll call ...

Paul & Juliet.

I'm keen too but bear in mind though that many routes are closing in the peaks so whoever takes responsibility for leading needs to do some research first :-(

Failing all that come up to the place I work at Tong and have a play at the off-road site. I take my D3 round so no probs with damage/scratches!!

with enough notice, almost any date is do-able (now watch that plan crumble)

No damage or scratches?........Have you asphalted it? :-) I don't think I had a straight panel on mine after going to Tong. Enormous fun though, I used to go quite a lot a few years ago, just occasionally got a bollocking for finding new tracks and once for ending up in the river on my side, but that was unintentional. Winch was always essential.

So, lets try it a different way...

Anyone even remotely interested email me (notcheckedever at hot mail dot com) with saturdays or sundays that are free up till April, say. I'll keep this all in confidence, and pick the dates that most can go on .. I don't mind leading twice as it's a good route. This way we might get an outing or more together, even if not for all of us at once

Or should we just keep it ad-hoc, I'll set a date when I can go and if anyone wants to come they can, which hasn't been successful so far ... I can probably get a mate or two to come along who isn't in AFL and I'm keen to try Stanage, Chapelgate and Monsall which are potentially very challenging lanes.

But was he born with it or has it developed due to his environment upbringing, education etc., You know, the nature versus nurture argument.

I like a challenge.

What are they like?

Dunno, but supposed to be larger steps than Roych Clough .. the one we went down that needed guidance. Stanage has a voluntary code of practice to only go down it, but it is still supposed to be quite bad, though passable with care downhill ... ;)

Monsall is supposed to be muddy, possibly rutted and just a long, awkward lane especially if wet, but right over the tops, down into the valleys and absolutely stunning scenery.

I haven't driven any of them, but if you, and a couple of others are up for it I'll check maps etc and arrange something ???

Same thing, email me with a few dates.

If anyone wants to come on 'the usual' run or the 'Stanage' run send me a mail and I'll sort something out for both sets of people.

I've recently took a group greenlaning round Doncaster, mostly benign lanes, only slightly scratchy and which a Freelander would get through, and a few months ago round North Yorks and am quite enjoying the challenge of arranging routes etc, though they've mostly been for newcomers rather than regular off-roaders. Also looking at going into Wales sometime this year as part of another group to get a feel for the Welsh lanes with a view to arranging a trip later in the year for AFL .. maybe!!
