All you really need is tyre diameter. The effect on gear ratios is down to the different circumference, which is proportional to diameter. If you're talking 34" nominal tyres originally, and fitting 32.5 nominal, (I make it

32.8)

erm... just wondering which percentage you want. I *think* you want (difference)/(new tyre size)*(gear ratio). I doubt it makes that much difference which tyre size you use for the ratio.

Mine are 14.5 inch wide - mind, I had all the offset put on the outside of the new rims when they were made.

Makes it sillysad to drive and looks a bit naff too IMO.

Did what ? The reference was to a tyre size spreadsheet I thought Rich had done. I might be thinking of his gear ratio document though....

Its amazing the information you can gain from that. For example, a 101 with rangrover ratio diffs will achieve 130mph at 3500rpm in top......

I have standard diffs in Grumble and a clocked* top speed of 89.4mph

I wanted to try the 'ton' but my bottle went - as did the bottle of my professional colleagues who were (by prior arrangement) clocking me...

"Stopping" was the issue... :-(

*(by a calibrated device in an, erm, 'official' vehicle, which, incidentally, exactly matched the speed given by my fishfinder GPS)...

I think at that speed, to stand any chance of pulling up in time he would need to purchase another 101 Disc brake kit and fit a second caliper to each wheel.....

Given it's a TVR engine, I reckon I need to follow up the lead on getting TVR ceramic brakes adapted to fit a 101.

I _will_ hit the 101mph target at some point...

I've only just finished rebuilding the 3.5 in the GS, which has bits from Grumble, Steve Taylors ambi V8 and a custom 'blood' manifold seal on the LH inlet... ;-)

Looking at the Zeus kit, i see no reason why the caliper bracket couldn't be remanufactured to provide mounting sites for 2 calipers on one side of the wheel, it looks like there's enough space to fit them within the confines of the swivel pin mounts. The only problem will be pursuading the discs not to overheat incredibly quickly, as they're not vented, and from what i can see are completely custom to the 101, so you can't pop down halfords and order a vented pair instead.

BTW, what do you do when you need new discs?

Also two reports of the caliper not, erm, fitting and needing modification. I think I'd be happier (if the insurance company agree) to go with the TVR.

Looks like overheating to me. It'd be interesting to find out what temperatures the disc is getting up to in normal use. Has anybody tried to get them up to fade temperature, and how quickly? Looking at the shape of the discs, i can see several problems with stress fracture points due to expansion. Couple that with the size of those pads...... There's an awfull lot less lining area there than with a set of shoes. Perhaps a simple upgrade to bigger pistons in the standard drum brakes would be a better way to achieve more braking effort?

Some of the rally cars have double-calipers on monster-size front discs. If you fit 20" wheels, you should be able to fit, oh, about 15" at least discs. Actually, given the money to throw at it, it should be easily possible.
