BioDiesel

Update as promised,

My 97 defender now has clocked up 5000km on 100% bio, runs smooth with more torque, on running up 500km since switching over to bio I replaced fuel filter as recommended, also dismantled the fuel sedimentor, there was some 'gel' deposited from the cleaning action of bio of the existing diesel.

Fantastic stuff.

Is your bio thicker than normal diesel? If so it might be worth monitoring injector spray patterns, ISTR in previous discussions here about bio, people suggested to me that injector wear rates would be increased and a bad spray pattern can lead to damage to pistons. I can't remember any detail though and might be confusing several conversations into one, not uncommon!

Interesting that the op claims more torque - my 200Tdi suffers a dramatic loss of power even on the part-bio fuel (and I'm talking seriously dramatic - top speed 70 mph).

The word biodiesel covers a multitude of sins, my 300TDi ran better on SVO (straight vegetable oil) than it did on diesel, it's not biodiesel but the word is misused so much that it can mean anything. The stuff that you can sometimes find at the pumps is called biodiesel yet usually only contains something daft like 5% vegetable-based oil.

So without knowing what the pair of you are running, it's hard for you to make a proper comparison I reckon.

That's fair comment - the term biodiesel does indeed cover a great many different things, plenty enough to well and trully muddy the waters!

beamendsltd uttered summat worrerz funny about:

Have you used the stuff from Cargas Richard? Am I right in thinking they sell biodiesel now or just the kits?

Grove Rd in Fenton.

No - the stuff I had came from Finikins in Leek.

I dont know about selling the fuel - they certainly do/did the kits as far as I remember (might be getting confused with diesel gas kits though!).

Don't get down there much these days, I've trained then to come and collect their bits! John says it's nice to have novelty features, like windows, on a Monday morning since the move ;-)
